BWM F10 Programing by Esys, ISTA+ or ISTA-P?

Question:

Any one has programmed all car with ista-p with enet cable successful
it’s safe to do it with enet cable?

Answer:

 

ICOM is a separate computer which handles all protocols itself and has connection to a car through multiple busses (D-CAN, K-CAN, ENET) at the same time. It also has internal measurement for car voltage, etc.

F10 is able to talk via D-CAN and ENET. Strictly speaking both of these are connected to ZGM which then “translates” messages and forward to other units in a car via appropriate buses. As long as your ZGM is functioning properly there is no difference. However ENET bus needs much more complicate software to run, and early ZGMs do have issues to be programmed over this bus (you can use search on this forum to find workarounds).

So basically, ICOM can monitor car voltage, ignition status and other things itself and stop communication with a car if prerequisites are not met. ENET cable will pump data to a car in any case. If your power supply has ample amperage to keep constant car voltage, this may not be an issue.

As Spirit said flashing a car is always a risk. Its just smaller (and potentially easier recoverable) with the right tools.

I personally prefer ISTA+ for flashing because its “run and enjoy”. It knows which units need to be programmed with ignition on and which with it off. It also runs all required initializations afterwards. With E-Sys you more or less need to know all of that yourself and do manually. But when flashing fails seriously, E-Sys is the only tool to do recovery.

ELM327 Bluetooth Code Reader Inside Parts Review

I’m not into cars to such an extent that I have an OBD-II analyzer in my toolkit. But when I discovered Chinese sources for $9-$20 USB & Bluetooth adapters, I couldn’t say no.
 
Actually, my search for OBD capability was inspired by a persistent check-engine idiot light (spoiler: it was only a cylinder misfire – something I could have already told you before the light ever came on!). I found that the usual Chinese sources carried many wired & wireless adapters, and I ended up getting this adapter from obdii365.com I knew it might not work, but it had good reviews, and I wasn’t risking much.
 
Sure enough, it did work – well enough at least to report the misfire code and let me turn off the engine light. Then, curiosity got the better of me, and I had to see what was inside. I’ll leave it to an enterprising reader to figure out the BOM cost. How can they make it so cheaply?
Here’s the dongle – it doesn’t know what’s about to hit it. The LEDs do activate when the device is in use, but it’s not clear if they have specific meanings. LEDless dongles of about 1/3 the size are also available.

I thought it might have one of those easy-to-snap-together, hard-to-unsnap cases, but no, I found the screws.

A look at the guts – the overall quality is surprisingly high:

Looking at what I’ll call the underside of the board reveals a Microchip MCP2551 CAN transceiver, a 4MHz crystal, an Advanced Monolithic Systems AMS1117 3.3V LDO in the upper-left (ever heard of them? I assume this is the same as an LT1117), five LEDs along the top, and a 78M05 5V regulator at the lower-left. The two diodes to the right of the regulator made me think of varactors for some reason, but a code lookup shows they are probably 6.8V Zeners.

The quality of soldering and general manufacture is excellent. The only flux residue on this side of the board is from a 3-lead through-hole component, which brings us to the topside:

Now things get interesting, though let’s start with the mundane. The through-hole TO-92 is a good old LM317 regulator. The two connectors did not “flow” into alignment very well, even though they have their “ears” soldered to the board. I’ll guess that the unpopulated chip is for a serial-to-USB converter for a wired version of the board. The big chip is a PIC18F25K80 — not too shabby a part, with 32K flash, 3.5K RAM, 1K data EEPROM, CAN, 12-bit ADC, 16MIPS, etc. It alone is worth about $2 in decent quantity!
 
That leaves the very badly soldered Bluetooth module, blue soldermask and all. The top three contacts on the left edge aren’t even soldered! Are they supposed to be? I could compare it to the original unit I bought (I haven’t actually tried this one).
 
The chips on the Bluetooth module comprise an FM24C64, which I assumed was just a common 64Kb EEPROM, but actually appears to be a more exotic FRAM! That’s the first FRAM I’ve seen in the wild. The chip to the right of the FRAM has me stumped. Let us know if you can figure it out. But the IC at the lower-right is an RDA Microelectronics RDA5869 Bluetooth SoC, a 55nm design with an ARM7 µC.
 
Many of the components have this year’s date code, so production is current. I get the impression the firmware in these cheap units might actually be…ahem…borrowed from an original design, and I don’t know how well it works with the range of car models and years sporting OBD-II, but it did what I needed for my 1998 Toyota.

How to test Volvo DiCE Cumminication with VIDA Software?

Steps to test DiCE communication with VIDA:
  1. Connect the DiCE unit by USB cable to your computer.
  2. Start VIDA.
  3. Open the Connected Vehicles tab.
  4. Select the DiCE to be tested in the drop-down menu.
ð The DiCE Configuration button appears.

5. Click DiCE Configuration.

6. Click Test Communication Tool to start the test of the USB connection.
ð The Test Communication Tool window is opened.
7. Select the communications to be tested by ticking the check boxes. By default, if no check boxes are ticked, the first eight elements are tested.
8. Click Run to start the test.
   OK should be displayed to the right for every row.
9. Click Close in the Test communication tool window.
Do not close the Test/Remove DiCE window.
10.  Remove the USB cable from the DiCE unit.

  The DiCE will now communicate via Bluetooth.
11. If you are using a computer with a built-in Bluetooth receiver, this receiver has to be disabled in order for the Bluetooth adapter to connect properly to your computer.
12. Press [WIN] + [R] on your keyboard.
  The Run window opens.
13. Type devmgmt.msc and press [ENTER] .
  At this point, a User Account Control pop-up window might open. In that case, click Yes.
  The Device Manager opens.
14. Double click Bluetooth Radios.
15. Right click all devices listed under Bluetooth Radios and select Disable.
  The built-in Bluetooth receiver(s) are disabled.
16. Connect the Bluetooth adapter to a free USB port on the computer.
17. In VIDA, click Test Communication Tool to start testing the Bluetooth connection.
18. Select which the communications to be tested by ticking the check boxes. By default, if no check boxes are ticked, the first eight elements are tested.
19. Click Run to start the test.
   OK should be displayed to the right of every row.
20. Click Close in the Test communication tool window.
21. Click Close in the DiCE Configuration window.
Close the DiCE Configuration window by clicking Close.
  The DiCE unit is now configured for both USB and Bluetooth connection at the VIDA client.
 
If DiCE is connected with a USB cable, the communication will always go through the cable.
 
DiCE/VIDA questions and answers:
 
Q: When I plug Dice into the laptop after loading it, I can read the car and pick up the VIN and other info. I also pass the Dice diagnostic test in Vida. Car is plugged into a charger to keep the volts up.
However, when I finally try the Diagnostic Tab to read my ECU and other Volvo computer codes it always stalls and gives me an error once it gets to ‘’identifying AUU’’. It tells me I have a communication error… always, tried it in admin, 1, car running, car in position 2…. running out of options.
A: Solved!
So it was some sort of compatibility issue between my version of Vida and Dice…
Uninstalled everything, brought .NET to version 3.5. Installed Vida 2014D and we are up and running.
 
Q: The communication tool is completely blank with a red X. I have rolled back to framework 4.0 with no luck. If you find anything let us know.
A: Just wanted to update you that I have fixed my issue. And for anyone else with this issue here you go for windows 7 64.
Hold windows key + R. Type regedit. Go to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\.NETFramework
Once there click on the .NETFramework file and you will see 2 values (Default) and InstallRoot. There should be a 3rd value.
Right click .NetFramework than go to new and down to DWord (32bit) and click it. Name the new one “EnableIEHosting” without the quotations. Than right click the item you just renamed and click modify. In the value type “00000001” without quotations. Should be seven 0s and a 1. Click ok.
Congrats. Relaunch the webpage login and you should be able to pick your tool.
 
Q: Win 7 Pro, 64bit. running IE8
DiCE is working fine in its test tool, VIDA is work fine on its own, but I can’t choose a communication tool…
A: SOLVED the problem (DICE not recognized). I found out since I have 2 separate laptops:
  1. Dell 2120 Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit IE 9 was a no go: DICE not recognized.
The .Net Framework file could not be found (this is the culprit) so I could not uninstall it.
  1. Dell D630 Windows 7 Pro 32-bit IE 9:
Once I uninstall .Net Framework 4.6.1., DICE is recognized.
This may be why they say turn off Windows Update during installation of VIDA to prevent .Net Framework installation.
I don;t know if this is true, but uninstalling .Net Framework 4.6.1. SOLVED the problem.
 
PS: Ironically, for Windows XP and earlier version (such as VIDA 2013A etc.), I needed to install .Net Framework, it is weird!
 
Q: Just got Vida/Dice and installed 2012a fine on my Win 7 Pro laptop. Everything looks good, except when I open the dice diagnostics tool included, it doesn’t see any unit connected. When I plug the unit into my car or laptop, the firmware status and vehicle interface status both light up solid. When I try to read info from the car or do the dice test in vida, it fails saying it could not connect. Device manager says the unit is working correctly and the drivers all installed fine.
I looked through the log and all I could find was this, where it repeatedly mentions “Invalid Device ID.

A: Solved this finally, after about 10-15 hours of frustration. Turns out the DICE unit I purchased is a cheaper version that uses some non-standard driver (CP2102 USB to UART Bridge Controller available here: http://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/P…CPDrivers.aspx) that I had to find and install myself. It also would not work on Windows 7 Pro, I had to install to XP mode which was an ever bigger pain due to incredible instability. I think the fact that I have an AMD processor and needed a hotfix to even get XP mode to work contributed to it, but if I changed the RAM for XP mode to anything other than 512MB, the virtual PC would reboot constantly. So I had to copy the entire VIDA 2012A DVD to my desktop (about 2 hours) and then modify the installation file to eliminate the 2GB RAM requirement check, and then install VIDA (about 3 hours). VIDA 2012A runs fine with only 512MB RAM, just a lot slower.
If your DICE unit is cheap and has only blue LEDs and when plugged in the Firmware Status LED is solid, you probably are going to need to download that driver to get it to work.

The modern immobilizers of the VAG-group vehicles have such conception as “Component Security” (CS). The CS is an array of 7 bytes length. Its role in a vehicle is to forbid a mixing of electronic units from different cars. In terms of the immobilizer the CS is a “password” that used in couple of the Motor Unit (ECU) and the immobilizer.
 
The protection scheme includes 3 components that share the CS, they are: ECU
IMMO KEY
 
The protection scheme allows the engine to start only in case when the CS is identical in all the three components.
 
Key and CS
The CS is a part of the Crypto Key and fills its upper area Word9-Word6.
 
ECU and CS
ECU uses the CS as a password. More modern ECUs contain only 6 bytes of the CS. In this case the CS should be extracted from another devices, for example it may be a dashboard.
IMMO and CS
The vehicle dashboard usually has a role of an immobilizer. The IMMO always contains all the 7 bytes of the CS.
 
The Tango key programming tool “Write Component Security 7 Bytes” (Megamos 48 window) helps you to put the CS manually into a transponder.

How to use Tango to synchronize Volvo ECU/CEM

Purpose: This document here is aimed to show how to use original Tango key programmer to synchronize Volvo ECU and CEM
 
Tango hardware: original Tango from scorpio-lk
Tango software: version 1.95 or newer
 
 
Function to test: synchronize ECU and CEM modules in VOLVO vehicles
 
Preparation: in order to  use the software, you will need to load a dump file from both ECU and CEM modules in Tango software. in case that one of the modules is broken or the chip contents are replaced, a file from a replacement (donor) module can be used.
 
ECU and CEM types covered:
CEM: 93C86, 28F400
ECU: 93C56, 24C04, 95P08
 
Any combination of the above mentioned can be synchronized.
 
 
Steps:
 
run Tango software and select key maker – dump editor

the synchronization of modules begins with loading dump files in Tango software. Here, the sync between CEM with 28F400 and ECU with 95P08 will be displayed
 
NOTE: It doesn’t matter which file is loaded first
 
will show how to synchronize the CEM module with the ECU
 
as a result of the whole procedure a new file for the CEM will be generated by Tango and this file is synchronized and  compatible with the originally loaded ECU file. The reverse operation – creating a new ECU file compatible with the original CEM file can be used instead. the procedure is basically the same.

if you press the “check synchro” button now, it will display the following error because at this point files of the ECU and CEM are not synchronized

the upper arrow that points left will prompt saving new CEM dump file that is synchronized with the ECU
the second button which points right may be used to create a new ECU dump file instead
choosing which function to use (create a new CEM file or create a new ECU file) is up to users’ personal preferences and basically there is no difference.
it may be a good idea to base your decision, which module to synchronize, on the unit where it is easier for you to reprogram.
here, rewriting flash 28F400 is more difficult than 95P08
therefore, it may be a good choice to generate a file for ECU and write it back
click the bottom button “make synchro” and save the new ECU file
in any case the newly generated file has to be written back in its corresponding module, which will allow both modules to work together once again.

after the new file is generated, it is advised to check the synchronization before applying it to the module. here, press “load file” under CEM selection within the software and select the newly generated by Tango file, which was created in the step above:

They are the same thing in practice, NOT 2 separate things. Global TIS is the newer version of TIS 2000. One replaced the other. Get Global TIS working and use that. Forget about TIS2000.

What’s additional function for GlobalTIS?
 
There’s the added revision search function for SPS, plus support for newer hardware and drivers (J2534, MDI), and the TLPrint, RPO and GDS functions. All of this is icing on the cake for most users here. The biggest difference is the rearchitecture, which is mostly invisible unless it fails.
 
GM wrote GlobalTIS starting with open source and IBM off-the-shelf components – I was working on a couple of them when I was at IBM.
 
The basics are available on both packages as long as your MY is supported. For non-MDI/Tech3 users like us, the two are functionally the same.
 
GlobalTIS installation & registration instruction:
 
The ideal OS is Windows XP 32-bit.
I’ve also installed it on Vista, 7 and 10…all 32-bit.
 
You will need the GlobalTIS ISO, Saab GlobalTIS keygen (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0MBc3x1yb6pTC1tTGFvS3dodHc/view?usp=sharing), Sumatra PDF (if you don’t have a PDF reader), and the Virtual CD Control Panel (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=38780)
Put all of these files on the desktop.
 
Steps:
  1. Launch and unzip Virtual CD-ROM control panel
  2. Load driver and mount GlobalTIS ISO
  3. Open My Computer, launch Saab GlobalTIS CD and click next repeatedly throughout the setup process
  4. Open GlobalTIS, fill out registration information
  5. Download Email/Fax registration file to desktop
  6. (Optional) unmount ISO and unload virtual CD
  7. Unzip GlobalTIS keygen, set environment variable/path to C:\Program Files\GlobalTIS\jre\bin
  8. Go to C:\Program Files\GlobalTIS\tomcat\webapps\ROOT and install Java
  9. Copy keygen files into C:\Program Files\GlobalTIS\tomcat\webapps\tis2web\WEB-INF\lib
  10. Open cmd and type the following: cd C:\Program Files\GlobalTIS\tomcat\webapps\tis2web\WEB-INF\lib

  12. Go back to cmd, type keygen.bat, press the spacebar once, then right click, Paste, press enter. (the keygen.bat and the registration key should have a space between them)

  14. Copy subscribe ID and License Key by right clicking in cmd, clicking Mark, highlighting text, then pressing enter to copy
  15. Go back to GlobalTIS registration and paste ID/key in their respective fields
  16. Click Register License Key, OK, then Logout
  17. Close and re-open GlobalTIS and the software is activated.

DIY change ICOM A2 serial number to update firmware?

For ICOM A2:
 
All ICOM from China A1
The firmware version is determined by the ICOM serial number, in China they are all the same 1120134. To change ICOM2, you need to change the serial number in 24c02 to the serial number from the range 1801201, and then restore the ICOM  from the restore.bin
Do not use serial numbers like 1111111, after restoration you will get a brick!!

Solder 24c02 and perform ICOM_Restore:
1.Copy to ICOM_Restore.bin flash drive
2.Insert flash drive in icom
3.Press the button and turn on the power, all LEDs will turn red and then release
the button and press it three times.
Wait until recovery is complete!!!
After recovery, update the firmware icom!

  1. Please use internet cable to connect ICOM Next with the computer, and charge ICOM Next via 12V power adapter or connect ICOM Next to BMW vehicle for power.
 
  1. Use IE Internet Explorer to open http://169.254.33.45:60080/, username/password: root/NZY1150263
 
  1. Select “Update Firmware”, you can see ICOM firmware version information.
 
  1. Select “Browse” to select file “ICOM-BootImage-01-25-02.bin”, set image type as “SYSTEM”, click “Send the file”.
 
  1. Select “Yes” when you get prompt “Write the image file to the flash?”, then ICOM indicator light will turn red.
 
  1. When it shows “The SYSTEM IMAGE update was successful”, click “Update Firmware”.
 
  1. Choose “ICOM-ApplicationImage-01-40-05.bin”, set image type “APPLICATION”, click “Send the file”, this will be done in several minutes please be patient.
 
  1. click “Yes” when you get prompt “Write the image file to the flash?”, then the ICOM indicator light will turn red again.
Complete updating, click “reboot”.
 
  1. Click “Home” – “Update Firmware”, you will see ICOM Next firmware display the newest version.

How to set up install Mitsubishi MUT III Software?

The MUT-3 software with the Chinese usually comes as two directories on one DVD. The first one is the program installation, which must be installed first. It is named something like with PRExxxxx, with “xxxxx” indicating the program version. The installer program, Mut3Check.exe, can be run from the sub-directory on the distribution DVD.
Note that if you have a local security password policy on the computer, the PRG install may fail as the SQL installation does not use a complex password.
After the Mut3Check.exe program is installed and the computer has rebooted, you can install the database updates. Typically in e sub-directory CD3Exxxxx, where “xxxxx” is the version of the update. Only ONE version of Mut2Check.exe can be installed without removing any existing version while MANY updates can be added.
In my experience, the Db update MUST be executed from a root directory of a CD or DVD, NOT from a sub-directory. I got all kinds of “Failed to install” & “failed to update” errors when running the update from the VD sub-dir.
Burn a new CD with the CD3Exxxx files in the root, so ECUUpdateJudg.exe is in the root of the CD. Then run ECUUpdateJudg.exe from the CD.

Some of the Mitsubishi MUT3 functions are passworded and those passwords are [usually] matched to the MDB password fields included in the updates. Which vary by distribution, version and locale. Get a MS Access password cracker and run it on the MDB files in your distribution to learn the passwords.
The Teach-In Function requires a certain version, or later, of the TCU firmware to be installed in the desired TCU. The MUT3 can do this and the newer firmware files are included in the MUT3 software distribution for 2010 and later but must be manually copied over to the computer. Until that TCU version is in the TCU, the MUT 3 will not display the Teach-In option.

Possible to make Chrysle Diagnostic Application CDA work with Micropod 2?

Here, we’ll talk about Micropod 2 with CDA (Chrysler Diagnostic Application) program.

Here is one thing I know, and one thing I’ve been told. I can verify that cda 6 works with up to date registered vci pods, If you somehow were able to get that software and log in credentials that is….. Now as for micropods … I was told by someone that micropods will work with older cda version 5.xxx but only a special kind of micropods . There are 3 different types of micropods that I know of. The first is loaded with operating system for wiadvisor , these are used by service writers on the dealership service drive , they can do a few basic functions such as read and erase codes check for recalls and soo on. The back of the pod has a different prefix on it then the full function scan tool for technicians , The service versions have a prefix of wsp-xxxx on the back. (I think these might work on cda 6 but can not verify that, it is just a guess) . The wsp version micropod does not work with version 5, you get a missing key error on start up. Now on to the version of micropod that I was told does work with cda 5 and that is a corporate version , it is used at the plants and was used by field engineers as well , these pods are red in color, this is the version I was told will work with cda5. I have not verified that so use that info at your own risk, I also do not know if there are different firmware versions of that micropod that are compatible. Hope that helps. There is also a wcp version micropod, Im not sure where that falls into the category.
 
The VCI Pod clone firmware is 3.1.2 and comes with WiTech 13.03.38, but should be able to be updated to 4.1.7/14.02.56 without issue. I only bought this to run CDA as I’m running WiTech v16 with a real VCI Pod. At this point, I’m really only concerned with MY2009, so my current setup is good for my purposes.

I have some old starmobile software too but haven’t uploaded it yet.
This is a cracked version of witech 17.03.10 You must remove all files of any previous version and then install you install the program and then you go to programfies (x86)/DCC Tools/WITECH/client here you delete the file app-config.xml
and you replace it with the file included in the download,
 
Note that any version of FW for VCI and Micropod 2 is compatible with CDA. Just need be a bit modified. A decent Micropod 2 should be like: http://www.obdii365.com/wholesale/witech-micropod-2-for-chrysler.html

This is advice for someone tries to run DRBIII emulator on Micropod 2 for 2005 Chrysler Crossfire European.

My XFire is 2005 and european, so it definitely is RDB III, was just wondering can someone verify the possibility of this being legit or have I misunderstood something ?

Yes, I have purchased and used this product on 2005 srt6 coupe and 2007 ltd roadster (us versions). It takes some work to get the software set up. But once you do, it works fine.
 
This Micropod 2 Clone works with the Enhanced DRB 3 Emulator.
Cost is about $170 (plus win 7 or XP laptop).

If you purchase the Micropod 2 unit and need some assistance, or have some questions, I will be happy to try my best to help. I am however not an expert. I am just a Crossfire owner who is unhappy with my dealers (lack of) service. They charged me $75 to say they couldn’t relearn my TPMS, and then estimated an additional $300 (parts only) to replace a TPMS module that I didn’t need. It felt good to be able to do the work myself, and not have to depend on them. That alone was worth the money I spent.
 
You will need this:
1) Good computer knowledge
2) A laptop with a clean Windows XP or Windows 7 installation on it. Nothing else. Networking and Updating turned off.
3) A Micropod 2 Clone
4) Follow these instructions
5) A TPMS tool to “chirp” the sensors so the vehicle can read them (I use the Autel TS601)
6) Perform a TPMS Relearn sequence using DRB III Emulator. Chirp each wheel when requested by the emulator. (Takes about 5 minutes)
 

 

I have only used the emulator to perform a TPMS Relearn (2005 SRT6) and diagnose a defective air bag control module (2007 Roadster). I have tested some other diagnostic functions, but I am not very familiar with its additional capabilities. I think it will perform many other DRB III functions.

Volvo VIDA Funny Features and Settings

What cool things can or have you done with VOLVO VIDA? How open is the software? Like, how custom can your electronics be?
 
Have collected a lot here… (credits to contribution from users)
 
  1. I did a SUM calibration with mine! Also, you can read all of your error codes and reset them, including the CEL.
 
  1. And data logging. Turn off drls
  2. A lot depends on the year and model. There are so much more electronics on later models. ( i.e. our ’13 XC60 than on our ’00 V70R). The main thing I use it for is maintenance/diagnostics and it’s nice that I don’t have to guess and see if ‘sensor x’ is working as it should or go to the dealer and pay them to tell me that.
 
  1. Reset my windows so that they don’t whistle.
    Reset service timers. And recalibrated when they service timers came up. (dropped it to 5k from 7500) AND found out you can set it for engine hours as well. Tempted to do a set up for that instead, since most of my driving is at 75-80 mph these days. 7500 miles at steady state 75 mph is better than 3000 miles at 25 mph average stop/go traffic… but that’s a whole other discussion…
    SUM calibrations.
    CEL reset.
    Calculated horsepower output.
    You can do a lot of different stuff. A LOT.
    I don’t use the datalogger portion very much, but i know it’s there. My “regular” OBD2 unit has a great data collection system in it for engine management that I understand, and I can capture more channels on engine management with it than with VIDA. That said, I admit that I need to learn some more about VIDA and use on data capture with it, it will do chassis data captures where my OBD2 unit will not (suspension, brakes, awd, etc etc etc) so I need to sit down with it and play with that feature…
 
  1. You can do a bunch of things with Vida except download software. Always a plus for diagnostics.
    You can monitor just about everything from duty cycle to sum voltage.
    You can also select a module and if you click the activations tab, you can activate certain components pertaining to that module.
     
    I don’t remember off the top of my head how I did this, but I changed the time limit of my interior lights when the door is open and when the key is taken out of the ignition.
    Personally I think it’s well worth the money if you’re considering getting Vida.
 
  1. Go diagnostics-vehicle communication-select DDM from the module diagram-advanced-initialise windows or smth
 
  1. Best diagnostics tool. I mean it even tells you how to fix errors with pictures
 
  1. Its not very intuitive, pretty painful at first actually, but you figure it out eventually.
 
  1. You can turn your heated seats to a higher or lower setting too. In my SR, I could barely feel them. I asked JRL to turn the VR’s up before I bought it and they’re much, much better.
 
  1. I just bought a VIDA/DICE unit from a Chinese seller obdii365.com tonight. The ad states the 2013 version, running on Win7. We’ll see how it goes. Hopefully it’ll help me solve a problem my dealer couldn’t fix (today actually) and told me my intercooler water sprayer was actually meth injection. Not a lot of confidence for that tech!
 
  1. You can do a gauge check to make sure everything works and it is pretty cool to watch. Here is a pic of it in progress

  1. I had a little bit of wind coming around the passenger front window. There is a bump stop feature built in to the control on the DDM/PDM so you can change how many mm it goes before stop. And you can adjust it with VIDA/DICE.
    Forgot about the seat heater function… changed mine, too. You can adjust both high and low settings, btw.
    AND (to whoever asked) NO! It is NOT INTUITIVE AT ALL! It’s frankly kind of a pain to find all the controls, but they are there.
    ONE MORE IMPORTANT THING: If you are getting one, remember, you must have Professional version of Windows. Home versions will not load (or at least without editing the load software – easier to have Pro version).
 
  1. I’ve cleared a few codes, SUM calibration, datalogged a few things. Cant wait to have more time to explore further into what VIDA can do.
 
  1. unit is working perfectly. I have done seater heater reset and diagnostics. The only thing it didnt come with is wiring diagrams which a PDF is available on the internet with a simple google search!
 
  1. If you were to purchase a VIDA subscription now it will be a totally different version then you guys are currently using. I believe anyone can purchase one. Its about 85 bucks for 3 days. They have a few different plans. You just go to volvo bookstore sight create an account. Then purchase and download its pretty simple. You can then do your own software upgrades and reloads add keys remotes all that stuff. Considering the cost of VIDA it still may be cheaper then going to a dealer for this stuff. VIDA is a technicians best friend. You can figure out the toughest possible problems with the info. in VIDA. I been there from day one when what was then called VADIS that was 1999 then later it changed to VIDA. It’s come a long way to say the least.
 
A subscription allows you to download vehicle software updates from the Volvo mothership at additional cost per update. At least in theory, as I haven’t heard of many actually trying it.
As an aside, the really cool thing would be if someone would save off the updates and post them up for all. Its possible, Volvo wouldn’t like it much, and it would be a blow for DIY freedom, so never likely to happen; but it would be great to get hold of the updates without having to screw around.
 
  1. Hmm, well turning off my DRLs probably isn’t that interesting, lol!
    You can also program things like how the alarm sounds off and for how long. Also how long the approach lighting stays on before dimming out.
 
  1. Buy the CFE so you can configure a lot more
    Auto fold mirrors or close windows/sunroof when closing or car or ignition off, adjust mirrors on engaging reverse, open windows/sunroof with different presses on keyfob, auto-enable seatheater(s) when temp is under X, custom messaging on DIM, gauge-sweep, close doors at X mph, extended settings for DRL and approach lighting, configure different settings for winter/summer, and so on, and so on.
 
  1.  From VIDA, you can do a DIM function test however which will illuminate all of the check lights and sweep the gauges to make sure everything is working correctly. If VIDA could do what the CFE does, I’d be a totally happy camper, lol!!
